* RUSA allows for starts as early as noon the Thursday before Easter (March 28th) However, we'd like to encourage teams to begin early in the morning on Saturday, March 30th with a goal of having all teams finish at the same time at the same location.
For reference purposes only you can preview the routes in the Route Archive page. However, ONLY current year official cue sheets most be used on the event day as there may be changes in the route.

A brevet is a long distance recreational ride that is timed. Brevets are offered in progressively longer distances in order to prepare you for the challenges of the longest events such as the Paris Brest Paris Randonneur (PBP). A brevet tests your endurance and provides a unique opportunity for self discovery.

Depending on the distance, our events will travel northward though Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. The routes will vary from flat to hilly and will include segments of short frequent hills (rollers) as well as include several long hill climbs. Events in the past included the challenges of very strong head winds (gusts to 40 mph), rain, dense ground fog. You can read past events participants' reports by clicking on the linked names on the Brevet Results pages.

San Francisco Randonneurs' brevets are minimally supported events on unmarked roads to keep costs low.

These events are not for beginners.  The courses are hilly and can be windy.  There will be night time riding in the longer events.   You should have completed several century or double century cycling events in the six months before starting a brevet.

News & Announcements

The San Francisco Randonneurs is working on four jersey projects at the moment. What is needed now from you is a show of interest large enough to indicate that the project(s) should move forward. There are two designs under consideration for production of four jersey styles, two each in wool and synthetic:

  1. Current Traditional Synthetic SFR jersey tri-color (Blue, White, Green) with the SFR logo
  2. Current Traditional Wool SFR jersey tri-color (Blue, White, Green) with the SFR logo
  3. New Design Synthetic as shown in design below.*
  4. New Design Wool as shown in design below.*
(*Note from Carlos: This is a mockup of a Synthetic jersey prototype that is being made for me so I added the Colombian Flag on one sleeve and the USA flag on the other. For the final jersey the treatment of the black band on the sleeves will be different, one sleeve will have a "strip" of small flags of the countries represented by current SFR members  The other sleeve will have no flags. An update to the mockup with the strip of flags will be done soon. Both, front and back of the jersey are the same)

Please note that this is not an either - or proposition. Given enough interest, all projects may go forward. At this point we basically need a show of hands for interest in either or both designs. We do not know what prices would be charged for the jerseys largely because we do not know how many of each would be ordered or for that matter who the final vendor will be.

Please send email to , with "2013 Jersey project" as the subject, and in the message body, please state the number of jerseys you think you'll order of either design, For example, if you would like one short sleeve jersey each of the Current Traditional design and the New Design, your message would read "1 A) Current Traditional Synthetic, 1 C) New Design Synthetic." If you think you'd like a short and a long sleeve version of the New Design in Wool, simply write "2 D) New Design Wool".

This message will be sent to the SFR email list, as well as to all current and active members. We are hoping to move forward with either or both projects by March 15th so please don't delay in indicating your interest.

Hi, intrepid randonneurs.

The NorCal brevet season is in full swing and the weather has been great! Let's hope the weekend for the 2013 Flèche also features good weather.

We currently have 5 teams in various stages of the registration process, and at least 3 others I know of in stealth mode. Remember that registration is not an all-or-nothing process; the first step is simply and letting me know you have (or are assembling) a team for this year. All the other details (route submission, forms, payment, etc.) are worked out along the way.

There is approximately one month left until the registration deadline, so don't wait until the last minute!! As an added bonus, earlier registration gives you first choice of starting times (I often have to modify starting times based on esoteric flèche rule requirements you don't want to know about), so if you want that 9am start and the possibility of sleeping in on March 30th, let me know ASAP! Your reward will be a great meal at Crepes on Cole! ;-)

Also, while the Flèche does not require as many volunteers as a regular brevet, we do need some help. We need a contact person who will be reachable by phone/

Hello Riders,

On July 13 and 14, SFR will host the third annual 2brevet weekend.

On Saturday, July 13, beginning at the Golden Gate Bridge at 0600, there will be a 300km brevet that travels to Cloverdale, CA and then completes a loop to Hopland, Ukiah, Boonville and back to the Best Western Cloverdale. There will also be a 200km option for that day that travels along the same route but terminates in Cloverdale without doing the additional loop.

On Sunday, July 14, there will be a single 200km brevet that begins in Cloverdale at 0800 and returns to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Paypal registration on the SFR website is up!  During registration, you may select the 300/
